DSS Arraigns 3 For Murdering One Of Them (Photo)

A 61-year-old man, Jonkin Chibuzor, who is the suspected leader of a kidnap gang in Rivers State, Jonkin Nkwuozor, was on Friday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court by the Department of State Services.

Chibuzor was charged to court for allegedly killing an operative of the DSS, Reuben Uzoma, and kidnapping his wife, two children and sister-in-law.

The suspect was said to have carried out the act in company with two other gang members, Okechukwu Onyegbosi and Mike Ogu, on November 16, 2016, on the Ngor-Okpala-Etche road in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Chibuzor and the two others were charged to court on eight counts, which included murder of a DSS official.


It was gathered that the accused persons later freed the wife, children and sister-in-law of the DSS operative after killing him.

The kidnap gang members were later apprehended by the DSS operatives when they tried to sell the Toyota Venza car belonging to the deceased.

A source said the late DSS official, Uzoma had earlier shot and killed two members of the kidnap gang when they (hoodlums) attempted to stop him.

The source said, “Unknown to him, one of the kidnappers was coming behind him. So it was that one that killed him with a pump action gun.”

When the accused appeared in court, the Senior Magistrate, B. Jamabo, instructed that the suspects be remanded in prison custody till further notice.

The third count of the charge alleged that the suspects conspired to murder the DSS official, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 516 of the Criminal code Act, (Capt. C 38), LFN 2004.

Other counts read, “That you, Jonkin Chibuzor Nkwuozor, Okechukwu Collins Onyegbosi, and Mike Eze Ogu on or about the day and at the place described above, did have in your possession a pump action rifle and an expended cartridge, being the weapon with which you robbed and murdered Reuben Uzoma, a very senior personnel of DSS and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 2 (3).

“That you, Jonkin Chibuzor Nkwuozor, Okechukwu Collins  Onyegbosi and Mike Eze Ogu, on or about the day and at the place described above, did have in your possession a prohibited firearm; that is to say, one  pump action rifle and an expended cartridge, without lawful authority and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act 2004.

“On or about the day and at the place described above, at gun point, did rob Reuben Uzoma, a very senior personnel of DSS of his Toyota Venza car after shooting him to death with a pump action riffle and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(I) and (2) of Robbery and firearms act (2004).”
