Police in Ogun State have arrested a suspected land grabber, Shakirudeen Shittu, and recovered six guns and 75 live cartridges from him. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, said the suspect was notorious and had been terrorising Ogijo and its environs.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, added that Shittu was arrested by an anti-robbery team at Eyinogbe Isale area of Ogijo. He explained that investigation revealed that the suspect was involved in a series of land grabbing violence “which resulted into loss of life and wanton destruction of property”. He said: “The suspect was arrested at Eyinogbe Isale area of Ogijo while the anti-robbery team of the division led by the DPO, SP Tijani Muhammad, were on routine patrol of the area

“He (Shittu) was said to be living at Ipinyewa Phase 2 in Lagos State. Information revealed that he was involved in a series of land grabbing violence which has resulted into loss of lives and wanton destruction of property

“Recovered from him are two pump action guns, three locally-made singlebarrelled guns, one short locally-made double-barrelled gun, 75 live cartridges, assorted charms and the sum of N87,600.” The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (FSARS) for discrete investigation with a view to tracking down other members of his group.

He said: “The CP therefore warned land grabbers to either leave the state or desist from their violent act because the command will deal decisively with anybody caught causing or intending to cause any form of violence in the state.”
