Sad: Missing Nigerian Doctor Found Dead In Lake Michigan, Few Weeks To His Graduation

28-year-old Ambrose Monye, a medical student missing over three weeks has been found dead in Lake Michigan. Family members had offered a $7,000 reward after he went missing from Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood on April 22. He was last seen walking toward the university's John Crerar medical library in the 5700-block of South Ellis Avenue.


He was a University of Guadalajara student in Chicago for a two-year clinical rotation at Jackson Park Hospital. He was expected to graduate this month. His body was found in the water near 5491 South Lake Shore Drive on Sunday around 1 p.m. He was pronounced dead on the scene and identified on Thursday.

His brother, Joseph, who is also a medical student, said last month when he checked Monye's apartment, he found nothing unusual. Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Officer, Nicole Trainor, said: “He has been identified and now it’s a death investigation.”

Joseph said: “He’s just four weeks from his goal. His tickets to graduation are already bought for the ceremony. He ordered his cap and gown and everything.” One of his acquaintances told Joseph that on April 22, the day he went missing, he saw him and greeted him but he didn’t respond.


Trainor said it’s unclear if foul play was involved, or even when Monye’s body entered the lake and that if any sort of foul play is discovered, the death investigation would become a homicide investigation. Family members say Monye’s disappearance was strange because he was preparing to graduate in a few weeks.
