Lagos Landlord Kills Tenant Of 4 Months After Refusing To Vacate His Property

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a landlord identified as Gbade Metibemu, for allegedly stabbing his tenant of four months, Bright Abraham, to death on Apollo Street in the Makoko area of the state.

It was learnt that Metibemu attacked the 35-year-old Abia State indigene with a knife for refusing to vacate his plank apartment after a week-long disagreement.

Punch correspondent was told that the suspect had warned the victim to stop soiling the slum with the faeces of his baby. When the warning did not yield any result, the suspect was reported to have threatened to kill Abraham.

Last Thursday, around 10pm, the father of four was preparing to sleep when an argument ensued between him and the landlord which degenerated into a fight. Metibemu was alleged to have got a knife with which he stabbed Abraham in the chest.

He allegedly rushed to the Adekunle Police Station to report that he had been injured by his tenant.

He was, however, detained when news filtered in that Abraham had died at the hospital where he was taken to for treatment.

A resident, who identified himself as Christian Nwankwo, said Metibemu always fought his tenants.

He said, “Abraham packed into the house four months ago. He was well-behaved and good-mannered and those were attributes that endeared him to us. His room is beside the landlord’s.

“However, about a week ago, the landlord started complaining that he should stop spreading children clothes on the washing line. He also complained about the faeces of his baby, which he said was soiling the house.

“He started threatening him to leave or he would kill him. We thought it was a joke.”

Another resident, Ndubuisi Nkegba, said the victim had excused himself from a chat to go to bed that Thursday when he was stabbed.

“Just about 10 minutes after he left us to go to bed, we heard a noise. We rushed there and saw that he had been stabbed in the chest three times by the landlord. He was in a pool of blood. We rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.”

The landlord was said to have gone to the Adekunle Police Station with a friend, identified as Femi, to report the incident.

“He told the police that his tenant stabbed him. The police were taking his statement when some friends of the deceased, who were returning from the hospital, met him at the station. They told the police that the tenant was dead. The landlord’s friend, Femi, fled, but the landlord was detained.”

It was learnt that the wife and children of the victim had been taken to their family house. Punch correspondent was told that an angry mob demolished the suspect’s apartment and destroyed some of his property.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Yaba.

We Will Use Force If Niger Delta Avengers Reject Dialogue With FG- Army

Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has warned that the Army will use force if the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and other militant groups reject dialogue with the Federal Government.

Gen. Buratai, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, spoke yesterday after inaugurating the two-storey administrative headquarters complex, Olympic-size swimming pool and two other projects at the 2 Brigade of the Army. He also inaugurated four projects at the Military Hospital on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He said, “Government is still committed to dialogue (with Niger Delta militants). Whereby this cannot go on, then there could be resort to other means. The non-kinetic means has always been the source first, before government can recourse to the kinetic means (dropping bombs and using bullets, using lethal force/full military action/war or killing people).

“So, there is the need for the Niger Delta Avengers to see reason and dialogue with government.

“Each time the army goes out to work, it works in support of the civil authority and we will continue to do that. If there is a need for the military authority to support the civil authority (during Rivers July 30 rerun), based on need from the police, we will continue to do just that".

Barack Obama's Half-Brother Says He's Voting For Trump

President Obama’s Kenyan half-brother says he’s voting for Donald Trump in the forth coming US elections.

He said: “I like Donald Trump because he speaks from the heart,” Malik Obama told The Post from his home in the rural village of Kogelo. “Make America Great Again is a great slogan. I would like to meet him.”

Obama, 58, a longtime Democrat, said his “deep disappointment” in his brother Barack’s administration has led him to recently switch allegiance to “the party of Lincoln.”

The last straw, he said, came earlier this month when FBI Director James Comey recommended not prosecuting Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over her use of a private e-mail servers while secretary of state.

“She should have known better as the custodian of classified information,” said Obama. He’s also annoyed that Clinton and President Obama killed Libyan leader Moammar Khadafy, whom he called one of his best friends.

Malik Obama dedicated his 2012 biography of his late father to Khadafy and others who were “making this world a better place.”

“I still feel that getting rid of Khadafy didn’t make things any better in Libya,” he said. “My brother and the secretary of state disappointed me in that regard.”

But what bothers him even more is the Democratic Party’s support of same-sex marriage. “I feel like a Republican now because they don’t stand for same-sex marriage, and that appeals to me,” he said.

60-Year-Old Man Arrested For Raping 6-Year-Old Girl In Ogun State

A 60-year-old man, Mayegun Alani, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl in Sango, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.

The Ogun police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, told Premium Times that the suspect, a landlord, committed the crime on Thursday.

Mr. Adejobi said the girl’s mother reported to the police after the victim complained of pains in her private part. The mother asked the little baby some questions which gave a clue that the landlord was responsible,” he said.

The suspect was subsequently arrested by the police.


“Initially he denied the allegation but later confessed to the crime,” Mr. Adejobi said.

“He said that he has been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl for at least a month. And medical report confirmed that the girl has been raped.”

The spokesperson said the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the zone, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the case be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence of the command for thorough investigation and prosecution.

Pastor Who Chained 9-Year-Old Son Has Been Arrested In Ogun State (Photo)

The fleeing pastor identified as Francis Taiwo, who chained his 9-year-old son for weeks, has been arrested.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest to Premium Times said the suspect was arrested on Sunday, with the assistance of his church members.

The suspect had been on the run since police and officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, burst into his church on Friday to rescue the victim, Korede.

The victim’s stepmother had earlier been arrested by the police who announced that the malnourished boy will be handed to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare for further rehabilitation.

Mr. Adejobi said Mr. Taiwo, a pastor at the Key of Joy Celestial Church, Ajibawo, Atan-Ota town‎ of Ogun State, will be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed.

First Ogun Class Monarch Dies In London

The Akarigbo and paramount ruler of Remoland, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, is dead. The monarch, who was the Chairman of the Ogun State Traditional Council, was flown to London on July 17 following an illness, but died yesterday evening in London.

Ironically, the monarch was born in July, crowned in July and also died in the month of July.

The first class monarch ascended the throne on July 14, 1990, was born on July 28, 1936. He was 80.

Update: FIFA President Arrives Nigeria Today

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has arrived Nigeria, He was accompanied by the Secretary General Fatma Samoura has he arrived the country on a two-day visit.

The duo were received by the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, as well as several members of the Federation’s Executive Committee and management staff.

Infantino and Samoura were treated to a brief display by a cultural troupe on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, before a session of photographs with the NFF members.

The FIFA team would also be treated to a welcome cocktail at the Transcorp Hilton later in the evening.

Teenage Girl With Incurable Disease Who Will Die At Summer, Gets Her Last Dance (Photo)

A teenage girl who suffers from an incurable disease has been crowned prom queen before she chooses to die later this summer.

Jerika Bolen was honoured with her own personal prom, a chance to say goodbye to friends and loved ones. The 14-year-old was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2 at just eight months old.

The brave schoolgirl, from Appleton, Wisconsin, lives in constant pain and must spend 12 hours a day on a ventilator. She has also endured more than 30 operations and is confined to a wheelchair.

On Friday, Jerika held her 'Last Dance' prom at the Grand Meridian in Appleton.

She was chauffeured in a stretch limo to the event, which was decked out in her favourite colours of lime and black with a sweet buffet and cakes for guests.

The inspirational youngster was crowned prom queen and even presented with her own tiara and sash.

Jerika made the brave decision to end her life after her most recent surgery, where her spine was fused, leaving her in pain that had become too much to bear.

She told The Post-Crescent: "I was ready then. I was ready a long time ago.

The teen had her spine fused, but her pain only got worse. "After that surgery...I kind of sat down and thought, 'Am I doing this for me or for my family?'

"I kind of realised I was doing it for my family." Jerika's mum Jen vowed to honour her daughter's wishes.

She told WBAY News: "We’ve bawled before and I said, ‘Jerika, I love you that much that I will not let you suffer.

Nobody Will Remove Me From Office - Ike Ekweremadu

Deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, on Saturday shrugged off his ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja, for alleged forgery of the Standing Rules of the Senate, insisting that his traducers would meet a brickwall as nobody would remove him from office.

Ekweremadu spoke as over 30 traditional rulers from his Enugu West senatorial zone presented him with the traditional ofor, a symbol of authority, standing in unison with him in his trial. They vowed that no matter the efforts of those seeking for his “downfall”, he would emerge stronger from his travails.

Ekweremadu spoke at his Ikeoha Foundation Adult Literacy Day and 2015/2016 Scholarship and Bursary award ceremony, his pet project, at Ezeagu Council headquarters, Aguobu-Owa, where over N40 million was spent on scholarships and bursary to over 400 indigent undergraduates and 250 sewing and grinding machines presented to widows.

“I decided to handover N400, 000 to each of the 20 students as scholarships for their education for four years. Ordinarily, it would have been N100, 000 each year but since am not sure if I will continue as Deputy Senate President until tomorrow, we have decided to give it out at once to ensure that nothing happens to the education of these young ones.

“Whether they succeed in chasing me out or not, you will continue to go to school. But, I have to assure you that nobody will remove me. It is not by power or by might but by the Grace of God. Our trajectory is from God. Nobody will do us anything. No matter what is happening, I can assure you that we shall survive them all,” he said.

Mastermind Of Hoax To Overthrow Muhammadu Buhari Arrested

The Department of State Services ( DSS) has arrested one Jones Abari, aka Gen. Akotebe Darikoro, for the alleged mastermind of a hoaxed plan to overthrow President Muhammad Buhari by the military.

A statement issued by an official of the service, Mr Tony Opuiyo in Abuja Yesterday  said Abari was arrested in Yenagoa on July 21.

Opuiyo described the suspect as the leader of the Joint Revolutionary Council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF).

He said that Abari had confessed to other criminal activities which included a threat to launch missile attacks on selected targets in Abuja and Aso Rock.

Others include writing threat messages to the management of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC) and the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) demanding for N500 million and N250 million respectively.

He said that the suspect also masterminded the vandalism of NAOC trunk line in Ogboinbiri, Southern Ijaw and bombing of SPDC oil pipeline.

In another development, the DSS said it had arrested a suspected terrorist, Bulama Ramat, at the Jabi Motor Park, FCT on July 21.

He said that prior to his arrest, Ramat was planning to attack the Federal Capital Territory and its environs in collaboration with other elements of an extremist cell of the Boko Haram group.

Opuiyo said that the service also made other arrests within the month of July in Enugu, Ondo, Jos, Kaduna, Yenagoa, Port Harcourt and Kano states.

The service urged all citizens and residents to remain vigilant and report all suspicious persons, parcels or vehicles to the nearest security formation.

“Members of the public are further called upon to see our societal and individual safety as our collective responsibility,” he said.

He advised the public to support security and law enforcement agencies with critical information that would assist in providing a safe environment for all to carry out their legitimate businesses.

Why I Was Chained By My Father - Rescued 9-Year-Old Boy Speaks Out

9-year-old boy, Korede Taiwo, who was chained by his father for months, has narrated his heart-rending experience to Sunday Punch.

Korede’s father, Francis Taiwo, was said to be the pastor in charge of Key of Joy Celestial Church of Christ, Ajibawo area in Atan Ota, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The boy told Punch correspondent that he would not want to live with his father and step-mother again.

He said, ‘‘I was not fed regularly when I was chained. My father and my step-mother only fed me twice a day. Some days, I was not given any food. I want to go back to school because I want to be a doctor in the future. I also do not want to go back to my father’s house.’’

The boy was rescued on Friday by men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps alongside officers from the Ogun State Command attached to the Onipanu Division, Ota, inside a room where his father, who is now on the run, chained him.

Sunday Punch learnt that the pastor’s neighbours alerted the security agents to the incident and they swung into action. It was further gathered that Korede allegedly always stole and usually ran away from home.

These acts, Sunday Punch learnt, made his father to believe he was ‘possessed’ and he started chaining him since January in an attempt to cast out the supposed ‘spirit’ in him. Sometime in May, Francis was said to have taken Korede to a river with the chain on his neck for a deliverance bath.

Speaking further, Korede admitted that he stole many times in the neighbourhood and also stole a pot of soup in his father’s house.

He said, ‘‘It is true that I stole a pot of soup and bowl of eba in our house. I also stole in the neighbourhood. My father’s inability to give money to my step-mother for the upkeep of the family caused it. But I promised not to go back to my old ways.’’

He also told Punch correspondent that he no longer attended any school because he was caught trying to steal from a food vendor in school. Korede added that he was a pupil in Onse Community Primary School near Ajibawo, before he was withdrawn recently.

‘‘I still want to return to school. I want to be a medical doctor, ’’ he said.

Speaking to Sunday Punch, Korede’s step-mother, identified as Kehinde, who is nursing a two-month-old baby, said she had warned her husband many times to desist from the nature of discipline he was meting out to Korede.

She said, “I usually warned him concerning the way he chained Korede. I had reported him to his twin brother, Kehinde, who lives in Ota, and I also reported to a friend of his.

“When the two talked to him, he would relax a bit, but as soon as they left, he would return to his old ways.” She stated that she did not know the whereabouts of her husband, adding that they were both from the Republic of Benin.

“We got married three years ago but I learnt that he was once married to a woman from Benin, Edo State. The woman,I was told, bore him four children- two boys and two girls. I only saw the woman in a picture, I have never met her physically. She was said to have left nine years ago, shortly after she gave birth to Korede,” she added.

According to her, she has never maltreated Korede in any way. She said, “All I have been doing is to beg him to stop stealing, as such act does not portray the family in good light.”

The Ogun state police public relations officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, told Sunday Punch that the police had launched a manhunt for the fleeing pastor, adding that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Abdulmajid Ali, had taken over the matter.

He said, “The police operatives of the command attached to the Onipanu Division rescued Korede from where he was chained on the neck to a heavy log of wood in a room by his biological father, Pastor Francis Taiwo, for more than a month.

“The AIG has ordered that the young boy be given proper medical attention. He will soon be handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in Ogun State for necessary action.”

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Secretary General To Arrive Abuja Tomorrow

President of football’s world governing body, FIFA, Mr. Gianni Infantino and the Secretary General, Ms Fatma Samba Samoura will arrive in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja on Sunday for a two –day working visit.

The duo, to be accompanied by a couple of aides, will be received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by NFF President Amaju Pinnick, members of the NFF Board and Management, and a host of other prominent figures in Nigeria football.

A welcome cocktail for the FIFA President and Secretary General will hold at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja later on Sunday.

On Monday, Mr. Infantino and Ms Samoura, led by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung and NFF President Pinnick will pay a courtesy call on His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. A number of FA presidents from other African countries, who are expected in Nigeria to join the NFF in welcoming the FIFA chieftains, will also be at the Villa.

Also on Monday, Infantino and Samoura are scheduled to be guests at an U13 exhibition football match at the National Stadium, before attending a corporate dinner with a legion of Nigeria’s political heavyweights and captains of industry at the Transcorp Hilton.

The FIFA President will fly back to Switzerland on Monday night, while the Secretary General will depart Nigeria on Tuesday.

China has completed production of a massive amphibious aircraft that it plans to use to fight forest fires and perform marine rescue missions. The AG600 rolled off a production line in the southern city of ‪‎Zhuhai‬ on Saturday, in what aviation observers see as a milestone for the country.

The aircraft has a maximum take-off weight of 53.5 tonnes and a maximum flight range of 4,500 km, according to state aircraft maker Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC).

The AG600 is by far the world's largest amphibian aircraft, about the size of a Boeing 737, according to AVIC deputy general manager Geng Ruguang.
