At least two people were killed over the weekend in Akure, Ondo State capital, during a reprisal attack by some cult group members. It was gathered that member of the rival cult invaded Odopetu area of the capital city to retaliate the death of three of their members who had been killed earlier by the other group.
According to an eye witness who explained that the leader of one of the group was attacked and injured in a brothel on Friday evening but managed to escape from being killed.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the area and other streets in the capital city and opened fire on the residents, killing two of the cultist.
The source however said that the attack spread to other areas of the town welding dangerous weapons which include, guns, cutlass and axes, shooting sporadically and killing two of the rival members.
He said it took the intervention of the men of the state police command to curtail the activities of the rival cult groups, saying about 20 people were arrested in connection with the attack and killing.
He however said that many of the cultists in the area have took to their heels over fear of arrest but said peace has returned to most of the areas
However, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Femi Joseph, said his men have commenced investigation into the matter with assurance to bring the perpetrators to book.
Joseph said some of the suspects have been arrested but declined to disclose the number of suspects arrested by the command.
