On Sunday, a 4-year-old girl was found in a trash bin outside an apartment complex southwest of Miami.
According to reports, the body of the young girl, who was later identified as Tania Paige, was found inside the dumpster by a man named Alan Tapia. He told NBC that he saw feet poking out of a blanket and quickly ran inside to disclose his findings to his children.
Tapia’s daughter said she had to see it to believe it, so she went out to check the dumpster. To the woman’s surprise, she found a baby “wrapped in the blanket with signs she was beaten to death,” she said.
One day after the discovery, Tina Farrington, Tania’s mother, was arrested on suspicion of committing first-degree murder. She then confessed to the murder of her four-year-old daughter and revealed she was angry with her daughter for talking back.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Halloween night after Farrington became upset with Tania and her sassy behavior. Farrington “lured” her children to her bedroom and suffocated four-year-old Tania to death. However, a spokesperson for the police department could not confirm the age of Tania’s brother or if he witnessed her death.
She then hid her daughter’s body in the trunk of her car but moved the remains to the dumpster when the smell became unbearable. One day later, Farrington was arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Miami-Dade County jail.
