25-year-old undergraduate student of Delta State
University, Abraka, Belynda Chinwe Bosa, has been arrested by the police for planing with her boyfriend to kidnap her in other to collect the sum of N10 million from her wealthy parents as ransom.
Bosa, is a Mass Communication student of the university, had
connived with her lover, George Itietie, an undergraduate of the
Institute of Management and Technology, IMT, Enugu, to abduct her and make a ransom demand from her parents who negotiated the sum to N5 million.
The
suspects were able to get the sum of N500,000 which was paid into an
ECO Bank account domiciled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, before they
were nabbed in a hotel at Oyibo axis of Port Harcourt where they had
lodged.
While parading the suspects at the Delta
State Police Command, Asaba, the state Police Public Relations Officer,
(PPRO), DSP Celetina Kalu, said the suspects were using one female
anchor person who goes by the name America Sunday Ogagawotu to establish
contact with the girl’s mother who was apprehensive.
"Investigation
into the incident revealed that the suspect (Bosa), on leaving Lagos,
went to her boyfriend, one George Itietie, in Port Harcourt where she,
the said Itietie (boyfriend) and Ogagawotu (anchor-person) planned to
inform her parents that she was kidnapped."
Going by the plot, they were to extort money from her parents because “Ogagawotu got N100,000 as her own share from the ransom.”
Confessing
her crime, Bosa said she regretted her involvement in the abduction,
stating it was her boyfriend who pushed her into the act, threatening to
dump her if she refused to cooperate with him.
She said:
"I am sorry for the stress I made my parents to go through."
