5-year-old girl becomes youngest to die of COVID-19

A 5-year-old girl became the first child to die from COVID-19, after she died on Sunday morning at Beaumont Royal Oak.
The family of Skylar Herbert confirmed the information Sunday night.
Before Sunday, the youngest person who died from coronavirus in Michigan was 20-years-old.
Beaumont Health released a statement Sunday night.
“The loss of a child, at any time, under any circumstances, is a tragedy. We are heartbroken that COVID-19 has taken the life of a child. We extend our deepest sympathy to Skylar’s family and all others who have lost a loved one to this virus. Beaumont Health’

Covid-19: Nine medical staff quarantined in Anambra state

The Management of the St. Joseph hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra state has said that nine medical staff of the hospital have been quarantined following their contact with the index case while on admission in the hospital.

The hospital said the staff were quarantined after a meeting with a joint team of National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Anambra state Ministry of Health.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Administrator, Jerome Okafor, the hospital said the sample taken from the patient admitted to the unit tested COVID-19 positive.

It further revealed that the room occupied by the patient had been decontaminated, while the entire centre had been fumigated.

Covid-19: Davido’s wife-to-be, Chioma tests positive for coronavirus

Davido’s Fiance, Chioma Avril Rowland, has tested positive for coronavirus, Davido announced on his social media pages.

Hey everyone ! I came back recently from America after cancelling tour. My fiancé Chioma also came back from London recently with our baby.

We had no symptoms and still both feel perfectly fine but because of our recent travel history we decided to take ourselves and our all close associates we’ve come in recent contact with for the COVID-19 test on the 25th of March.

Unfortunately, my fiancĂ©’s results came back positive while all 31 others tested have come back negative including our baby. We are however doing perfectly fine and she is even still yet to show any symptoms whatsoever.

She is now being quarantined and I have also gone into full self isolation for the minimum 14 days.

I want to use this opportunity to thank you all for your endless love and prayers in advance and to urge everyone to please stay at home as as we control the spread of this virus! Together we can beat this!

COVID19: Chinese government donate medical kits to Nigeria

The Chinese government has donated locally made medical kits to Nigerian healthcare workers. The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, made this known via his twitter handle writing;

''@NigeriaGov is thankful for robust support from multilateral & bilateral partners like @UN_Nigeria who offered prompt support and @China_Emb_NG who donated locally-sourced PPEs & medical supplies to help protect healthcare workers on the frontlines of #COVID19 response.''




Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, tests positive for coronavirus

The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has tested positive to coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, just announced this in a statement.

This comes a day after the governor took the test after he had contact with the son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has tested positive to the deadly bug.

Former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the upper legislative chamber, Shehu Sani, has exposed the hypocritical tendencies of Nigerian politicians.

Recall that since the arrival of Coronavirus in the country, politicians have hardly sent out messages to Nigerians on ways to stay safe.

Shehu Sani, in a recent tweet allege that politicians pretend to love and care for the masses only during preparations for elections.

In a tweet, Sani noted that “If #COVID-19 had arrived Nigeria during electioneering campaigns, every home could have been provided with a free bag of Rice, Indomie’ and a customized pack containing hand sanitizers, soaps, thermometers and masks.

“And politicians knocking doors to know how you are faring.” the tweet alleged

Aisha Buhari sends message to Atiku Abubakar

Aisha Buhari, today sent a message of strength and prayer to former Vice-President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as he announced his son has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a message of strength to the 2019 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Aisha Buhari said: “Your Excellency, It’s with deep sense of concern that I extend my sincere prayers towards the quick recovery of your dear son. Allah renu en Amin.”

COVID19: Cuban doctors arrive Italy to battle coronavirus

52 doctors from the Caribbean nation of Cuba have arrived in Italy to assist with the challenges of the coronavirus in that country.

Italy has become the country with the most deaths linked to the virus in the world, overtaking China, which is where the virus originated, leaving the country quite overwhelmed in trying to treat patients.

This lead to the European country making the request of Cuba, which is regarded as having one of the best healthcare systems in the world. In light of this, Cuba has sent fifty-two highly skilled doctors to help the Italians in their time of need.

The brigade of doctors will head to the crisis-hit area of Lombardy that is the worst affected region in Italy. Hundreds died on Saturday as the numbers continue to balloon with no end in sight.

COVID19: Veteran Spanish opera singer tests positive for coronavirus

Spanish opera singer Placido Domingo has announced through a Facebook post that he has coronavirus and is in self-isolation.

In his statement, Domingo, 79, urged others to be 'extremely careful' and follow the basic guidelines of hand washing and social distancing to stop the spread of the disease.

The veteran singer decided to get tested after suffering from a high fever and a cough, and the test has since come back positive.


Domingo and his family are now in self-isolation for however long is 'medically necessary' but the singer also rallied his fans with encouraging words.

He said: 'Together we can fight this virus and stop the current worldwide crisis, so we can hopefully return to our normal daily lives very soon.'

Coronavirus: Eko Hotel shut over threat of Covid 19

Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island was on Sunday shutdown  by the management over threat of the deadly Coronavirus.

The hotel’s management announced on Sunday that it has shut the edifice, saying that its decision to shut the hotel was a difficult one, but had to be taken in the interest of the public.

Lagos has been the epicentre of Coronavirus in Nigeria with over 20 cases confirmed in the state.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, six new coronavirus cases were diagnosed in Lagos on Sunday, bringing the total to 24, four in Abuja, one in Oyo and one in Ekiti.

First coronavirus death recorded in Nigeria

The first coronavirus death has been recorded in Nigeria.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC),the case was a 67-year-old male who returned following a medical procedure in UK.

He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma and diabetes and was undergoing chemotherapy.

Coronavirus hits Edo: 5 new cases confirmed

Five new cases of Coronavirus (COVID19) have been confirmed in Nigeria.

This was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control around 9:40 am today.

NCDC stated that the new cases include two in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), two in Lagos state and one in Edo state.

Two of the cases were also confirmed to be returning travellers from the United Kingdom.

However, this brings the cases of coronavirus in Nigeria to 35 and two have been discharged.

The latest development also means Lagos now has 24, FCT – 6, Ogun- 2, Ekiti- 1, Oyo- 1, Edo- 

MTN staff to start working from home today

MTN Nigeria on Sunday said its team would start working from home as part of the precautionary measures to stop the spread of COVID-19

Mr Funso Aina, the telcos Senior Manager, External Relations, said in a statement that from March 23, workers are expected to perform their duties from home.

Aina said that the telcos operations would continue to run at full scale with essential staff working limited hours on-site.

“We also plan to announce the temporary closure of some of our stores.Those that remain open, will operate reduced hours and maintain strict and social distances measures.

“ The situation unfolding around the world is unlike anything we have seen in our lifetimes and is a reminder that we are all more connected than we ever know.

“To get through this, we need each other with patience, understanding, compassion, and to do the right thing for each other,” he said.

Aina noted that the company had been closely monitoring the situation and “believe it is crucial that companies do two things, which was helping to contain the escalating outbreak and safeguard operations so that economies keep moving.

He said that for MTN in particular, they understood the vital role the network and services play in supporting people, organisations and institutions nationwide.

“Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by COVID-19, especially those diagnosed with the virus, their family and friends, and all those whose jobs, education, and way of life have been affected.

“We have also complemented the government’s sensitisation drive, introduced rigorous cleaning measures and equipped team members with additional sanitation and safety products.

“As part of our response plan, in the coming days, we will introduce our Y’ello care package, several new measures as part of a concerted effort to support our customers.

“These include further amplifying governments sensitisation efforts, using more channels to deliver health and safety information, and suspending fees for all money transfers using our Momo Agent network,” he said.

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed that his son tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
The former vice president who shared the news via his verified Twitter handle, stated that the NCDC (Nigeria Centre for Disease Control), has been duly informed about the situation and that his son has been moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja for treatment and Management.
“My son has tested positive for coronavirus,” he tweeted.
M. The @NCDCGov has been duly informed, and he has been moved to Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in Abuja for treatment and management. I will appreciate it if you have him in your prayers. Stay safe, coronavirus is real,” he added.  Atiku also asked that Nigerians put his son in prayers.
