'Alcohol And Hard Drug Hawkers At Motor Parks Are Agents Of Devil' - FRSC

Edward Zamber, the Enugu Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has said the commission is out at tackling the menace of hawking alcohol and hard drugs at motor parks describing the hawkers as agents of darkness who are encouraging drivers to have accidents.

Zamber stated this in Nsukka on Friday during the 2017 flag-off of Ember Months campaign rally titled “Right to life on highways, Not Negotiable”. Zamber who was represented by the state sector operation commander, Mr. Jude Eke advised motorists to resist the temptation of drinking alcohol and other things that can cause accidents when they want to drive. “We will continue to do our best to ensure safety on our roads but drivers and other road users should complement the commission’s efforts by doing their part,” he said He urged drivers and other road users to drive safely during the Ember months adding that FRSC would continue to do its best to ensure safety on the roads.

In a remark, the Unit Commander, Nsukka Command, Mr. Shuaibu Bello, said ninety per cent of road accidents in the country are as result of human factors. He said some of the human factors that resulted in road crashes were drivers over-speeding, lack of concentration, tiredness, driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous over-taking.

Ikoyi Whistle-blower Rejects FG’s N325m

Yakubu Galadima, the lawyer for the whistle-blower, who informed the EFCC of the $43m, N23.2m and £27,800 (N13bn) recovered from an Ikoyi apartment, says his client will not accept anything below 5% commission, Punchng reports.

The Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, at an event on Thursday, had explained that any whistle-blower, who helped the government to recover anything above N1bn would receive less than 5% commission.

Owasanoye, who was part of the team that drafted the whistle-blower policy had said, “If you blow the whistle and the government recovers cash, you are entitled to between 2.5 per cent and five per cent.

The maximum limit is five per cent. According to the policy, if you blow the whistle and it is below N500m, you get four to five per cent because the higher the amount that is recovered, the lower the percentage that is given.

This is the global best practice. If the recovery is between N500m and N1bn, you get three to four per cent (commission). If it is N1bn and above, it is 2.5 per cent.

Indeed, there is a clause that we included in the policy to say that the government may determine the amount to be awarded based on other criteria provided that the amount to be awarded doesn’t exceed five per cent.

In other words, the government may actually pay less than 2.5 per cent but nobody can be paid more than five per cent.”

However, the Ikoyi whistle-blower’s lawyer told Punchng on Saturday that his client would not accept anything less than five per cent. When asked if his client would accept anything less than five per cent, he said, “Not at all.”

Galadima had stated last week that the commission his client was expecting from the FG was N860m and not N325m. He had also stated that the commission should be paid based on the exchange rate at the time the money was recovered and not the current one.

12-Year-Old Girl Tortured With Hot Knife For Stealing N50

A 12-year-old girl identified as Muyiba, came within an inch of death, as her body parts were disfigured with burns from a hot knife by her cousin named Bose Ola, for allegedly stealing N50.

According to Sunonline, Muyiba's ordeal was cut short when she fainted and had to be rushed to Siloan Medical Centre at 14, Muhammadu Akije Street, Ejigbo, Lagos State.

Speaking through an interpreter, Muyiba, 12, told Saturday Sun the incident of Saturday, November 18, 2017. “I saw N50 in the sitting room and I took it, not knowing that it belonged to Aunty Bose.

Later in the day, when she asked about the N50, I denied seeing it, but when she said she was going to punish me, I told her the truth and apologised that it won’t happen again. I thought that the matter was over because she had accepted my apology.

But she asked me to pull off my dress including my panties. I obeyed. She ordered me to lie on the chair. She brought out a cane, belt and stick for turning garri.

She called Brother Rafiu (her husband’s younger brother) to assist her and they descended on me. After that, she lighted the stove and heated a kitchen knife and started to use it to sear my body”.

Some neighbours informed the Crime Victims Foundation of Nigeria (CRIVON), Gbagada, Lagos, which led to the arrest of Bose and her subsequent arraignment at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court on one count charge of child abuse.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, November 23, 2017, arraigned a suspected Internet fraudster, Akpaikpe Etim, before Justice J.E. Oyefeso of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on an eight-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money by false pretence.

Etim, 30, who is said to be a member of a syndicate of fraudsters operating in the Lekki area of Lagos, among other alleged offences, obtained the sum of $4,000 from a victim in Singapore, after posting a dog for sale on an online platform. .

Investigation also revealed that the suspect, who does not have a stable job, had several inflows of money into his account, which he could not satisfactorily account for.

The suspect pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.In view of his pleas, the prosecution counsel, Banjo James, asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the suspect in prison custody. In his response, counsel to the defence, O.V. Adoro, urged the court to grant his client bail.

However, the prosecution counsel opposed the bail application. Consequently, Justice Oyefeso ordered the suspect to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and adjourned the case to February 18, 2018 for hearing of bail application.

54-Year-Old Caught Defiling Gin Seller's 11-Year-Old Daughter

A gin seller caught a 54-year old man Gabriel Oriashi almost got lynched after he was caught defiling 11-year-old daughter of a gin seller he normally patronized.

The sad incident happened at Kajola Street where the victim’s mother lives and owns a shop at. The suspect who is married to two women had gone to the victim's mum's shop to buy a drink where the victim was asked to attend to him.

Noticing the victim’s mother was not close by, the suspect ordered her to pull her pant down then proceeded to penetrated  and penetrated her through the back. When the victim's mum waited for her return, she proceeded to check for her and found them in the act.

She raised alarm which attracted the residents who attempted to mob Oriashi before he was rescued and handed over to the police at Ikotun Division. The Akoko Edo born suspect was charged before Ogba Magistrates court for defilement. It was leant it was not the first time he was doing so.

When interviewed, the victim said the suspect warned her not to tell her parents otherwise they will all die. So she had to keep quiet and bear the assault to save her parents from dying. Oriashi, who is a truck driver, pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. F. Akani, granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum. The court ordered the suspect to be remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition. The matter was adjourned till 15 January, 2018.

We Target Bank Customers With Huge Withdrawals – Suspect

A suspected bank robber, Mr. Hyacinth Loveday Bright, 32, has revealed to detectives attached to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command that he and his gang members used to pose as banking customers in order to monitor genuine customers making huge withdrawals.

Bright claimed that he and his gang members had attacked and robbed only seven different bank customers in different cities across the state, before they were eventually arrested.

The police, however, felt that the victims could be more than seven.
Bright, who lives in Eket, Akwa Ibom State specialised in going to banks, pretending to be carrying out banking transactions, while looking out for those making huge withdrawals.
He and his members would later follow the prey to a certain point before collecting the money from them at gun point.

Bright said: “My boys will wait outside the banking hall, while I go into the bank. Once I’m inside, I pick a teller, pretend to be filling it, while monitoring customers making huge withdrawals. Once they are through, my boys and I would trail them from outside. My boys will rob them at gun point. We don’t just rob anybody! We make sure the person withdrew a good sum of money before we go after him or her.” Asked what he has been doing with the stole money over the years, Bright said: “I used most of the money I made from robbery to open a big boutique at Eket, in Akwa Ibom State. But even after acquiring the boutique, I couldn’t quit robbery.” The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Mr, Zubairu Muazu said: “It may interest you to know that we have finally arrested the notorious gang responsible for series of bank robberies in the state.

Police Arrest ‘Herbalist’ For Defrauding 21-Year-Old Boy Who Met Him For Money Ritual

A 41-yr-old herbalist, Bidemi Idowu, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly possessing fake currencies.

Idowu was also accused of being a fraudster. It was gathered that the suspect duped a 21-year-old of N400,000, after which he gave his victim a herbal concoction, which affected his health.

Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was exposed by the victim’s father, Basiru Amosun. He said: “Amosun reported that the suspect fraudulently collected N400,000 from his son, Habeeb Amosun, 21.

He said the suspect collected the money under false pretence that he would prepare a money doubling charm for him. He gave the victim a concoction to drink, which caused him stomach disorder.

Upon report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ajose Muhammed, sent detectives to arrest the suspect. A search warrant was issued and the N400,000 allegedly collected from the victim was recovered.

Also recovered were 59 pieces of 1,000 fake CFA, one piece of $50, 600 pieces of fake N1,000 notes and charms.” Oyeyemi appealed to parents to advise their children against quick money.

Oscar Pistorius Prison Sentence Increased To 13 Years, 5 Months

South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal has increased Oscar Pistorius’ sentence to 13 years and five months for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

It issued the ruling after the prosecution appealed his previous sentence of six years as too lenient.

The former Olympic and Paralympic sprinter killed Steenkamp at his home in an upscale Pretoria neighborhood on Valentine’s Day in 2013 an act he says was an accident after he mistook her for an intruder.

The police in Imo State have arrested a man, identified as Akarauwa Eke, for allegedly defiling his 10-year-old daughter.

It was gathered that the victim, who is a primary three pupil at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Ihiagwa, in the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state, had been living with her father, along with her siblings, since her mother died in 2013.

PUNCH Metro learnt that nobody suspected anything until the victim refused to follow her father, who had come to her school to pick her.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the refusal of the child to follow her father home aroused the curiosity of the people around.

He added that in the course of investigation by teachers and villagers, it was discovered that the man had allegedly been defiling her daughter at home.

A non-governmental organisation, Virgin Heart Foundation, said it was partnering Women of Divine Destiny Initiatives, an organisation owned by the wife of the governor of the state, to ensure justice for the girl.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Andrew Enwerem, said the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, had ordered that the matter be charged to court immediately after investigation.

His previous charges include assault with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, cocaine possession, etc. Apparently, he developed a relationship with his daughter throughout the years while in prison.

Back in October, Griffin's alleged daughter, now 17-year-old, gave birth to a baby girl. According to KissyDenise.com, the child was born almost 9 months to the date of Griffin's release. The site also reports that this case is an active investigation in Osceola County, Florida.

The father and daughter couple also had a baby shower and posted pictures publicity. A source familiar with the family told KissyDenise.com that teen girl said:“It’s not my dad’s fault. He didn’t force me to. I wanted to.”
