World First Male Contraceptive Injection Could Be Available In 6 Months

World First Male Contraceptive Injection Could Be Available In 6 Months
The world’s first contraceptive injection for men could be available for consumer use within six months, after Indian scientists announced that clinical trials have been completed on the drug.

The contraceptive, which remains effective for 13 years before it loses potency, has been sent to the national Drug Controller General of India for final approval.

“The product is ready, with only regulatory approvals pending with the Drugs Controller,” said Dr RS Sharma, senior scientist with Indian Council of Medical Research, in a comment to the Hindustan Times.

“The trials are over, including extended, phase 3 clinical trials for which 303 candidates were recruited with 97.3% success rate and no reported side-effects. The product can safely be called the world’s first male contraceptive.”

The contraceptive works via an injection to a sperm-containing tube near the testicles.
It contains a polymer called Steryene Maleic Anhydride developed in the 1970s that inhibits sperm production.

If approved, the injection will be the first male contraceptive offered to consumers in the world, although it will be marketed as a long-term alternative to a vasectomy, rather than a short-term option like the implant or coil that are on offer to women.

Ogun Customs Arrest Man With N2.5m Fake Notes (Photo)

Ogun Customs Arrest Man With N2.5m Fake Notes (Photo)
The Ogun State Command 1 of the Nigeria Customs Service says it has intercepted a man in possession of N2.5m fake currency notes at Ihunbo, along the Sango-Ota-Idiroko border.

The Controller of the command, Mr Michael Agbara, said other seizures made during anti-smuggling activities included 147 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, and 40 drums of industrial alcohol, otherwise known as ethanol.

He said the suspect caught with the fake naira notes, Samson Odebija, told the operatives that he was recruited by one Islamic cleric to help convey the notes to Owode from Idiroko.

He added that the suspect said the cleric promised to reward him with N5,000 if he successfully conveyed the currency to Owode.

Speaking on the ethanol seizure, Agbara stated that the product was categorised by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as strictly “for industrial use.”

He said, “The item (ethanol) was strictly stamped by NAFDAC for industrial use.

“However, investigation revealed that some unscrupulous elements engage in the distribution of the product to residents of Idiroko, who ignorantly dilute it with water and take it as an alcoholic drink. This is evidently harmful to the health of the people.”

EFCC Arrests Banker And His Wife Over $1.49m Money Laundering

EFCC Arrests Banker And His Wife Over $1.49m Money Laundering
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Lagos has arrested a couple, Rowly Isioro, a former Assistant General Manager with one of the first generation banks and his wife, Ovuomarhoni Naomi Isioro, a businesswoman, for their alleged involvement in Business Email Compromise fraud and money laundering.

The couple allegedly laundered the total sum of one million and forty-nine thousand Dollars ($1.49m) through Ovuomarhoni Naomi’s bank account in Nigeria.

Their arrest followed a petition received by the Commission from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, through the office of the Legal Attache, United States Consulate, Lagos, about their alleged involvement in computer-based fraud, stealing and money laundering.

So far, the investigation revealed that Naomi met one Michael Uziewe (who is still at large) in Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America, sometime in 2016, and introduced her to foreign exchange business.

Through this encounter, Naomi and her banker husband turned their two registered companies, Marhoni General Services Limited and Multaid Plus Limited, into a conduit for the dispersal of funds wired by Uziewe, who allegedly owns Global Investment network.

Naomi, in statements volunteered to the Commission, confirmed she had been receiving monies in Dollars, with instructions to pay the naira equivalent into accounts provided by Uziewe.

Facts have also emerged that each time Naomi receives the Dollar transfers, she makes over the counter withdrawals, in breach of financial regulations that such transactions go through the financial system, and sell them to Bureau de Change operators for Naira equivalents.

Rowly Isioro, a banker of over 22 years of experience has also confessed that he was aware that his wife met someone in the United States of America, who sends her Dollars, while she pays the naira equivalent to various accounts on the instruction of the US-based partner.

Rowly was allegedly relieved of his appointment with the bank as a result of his involvement in the money laundering scheme.
