Why I Mention Dangote, Otedola In My Songs - Teni

Why I Mention Dangote, Otedola In My Songs - Teni
Teni Apata, popularly known as Teni the entertainer, is one singer who often mentions the names of prominent people in her songs.

In the past, Teni had mentioned the names of business tycoons such as Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola in her songs, which made the songs more popular and acceptable.

In an encounter with Sunday Scoop, the award-winning singer explained why she often called people’s names in her music. “I grew up being exposed to a lot of culture and one essential part of that is praise-singing people. I decided to incorporate that practice into my songs so that people could relate more with them,” she said.

Contrary to what many believe that Teni’s Billionaire EP is all about the brazen pursuit of money, the plump singer said the title song and EP were centred on encouraging people to live their best lives. She stated, “This project basically encourages people to lead their best lives, achieve their dreams and generally enjoy what life has to offer. No doubt, life has its challenges, but sometimes, one just needs to take a break and enjoy it.”

On the misconceptions people have about her, the cheerful singer said, “I don’t really know the misconceptions that people have about me but I try to be myself at all times. Being real is the best thing one can do in this world.”

The suspects, Mohammed Ali, 24; Ephraim Isaiah, 19 and Abubakar Sadiq, 18, were trailed and arrested by the police operatives attached to Lapai and Kiffin-Koro Divisions while trying to escape.

It was learnt that Ali and others were in the act for more than two years, removing female pants spread on the clothes lines.

Punch correspondent on Friday gathered that Ali was contacted by one of his accomplices to steal four female pants for N20, 000. He was reportedly about to steal the third pants when he was caught by the people who handed him over to the police.

Ali stated, “One Madaji Yabajeko from Agaie is my customer who comes to sew clothes from me. He approached me to steal pants for him, that if I steal four pants, he will pay me N20, 000.

“I have stolen three pants so far and gave them to him but he has not paid me. He said he would pay me after the pants are complete.”

Ali further said he stole the pants when the residents were not at home but on the day he was caught, he did not know the owner of the pants was around.

“I steal pants from the windows of the student’s lodge off campus. The last one which they caught me, I did not know the owner was at home. As I put my hand inside the bathroom to take the pant, that was how she shouted and people cane around and I was caught.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muhammad, confirmed the incident, saying the suspects had confessed to the crime.

Abubakar further advised females to be cautious of how they spread their underwear as there were perpetrators prowling around to use the underwear “for only-God-knows purposes.”

The first instalment of the three-part investigation by Fisayo Soyombo, a former editor of The Cable and a contributor to Al Jazeera, detailed how Nigerian policemen “pervert the course of justice in their quest for ill-gotten money”.

His reports contained audio, pictorial and video evidence of corruption in the Nigerian judicial system.

Nigerians have now taken to twitter to condemn the planned arrest.

Suspect Confesses To Kidnapping In Niger State (Photo)
A-35-year-old man, Mohammed Betuwa, suspected to be a member of a five-man gang of kidnappers in Katsina State, has confessed to taking part in the abduction of the daughter of one Sariki Aliyu of the Kudun-Gure Fulani Settlement Camp, Kotonkoro, in the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The suspect, who is the only member of the gang currently in police custody, confessed to taking part in the crime in an interview with Punch correspondent in Minna on Thursday.

Betuwa said, “I am struggling to meet my responsibility as the head of the family. I have two wives and seven children; I started kidnapping to make quick money when the cattle rustling business I started in 2015 was not bringing in enough.

“My wives know that I am a kidnapper; it is through the business that I take care of them.”

He explained that the gang leader, Hamidu Buden, introduced him to the kidnapping venture.

“My greatest worry now is my mother; if she gets to know that I am a kidnapper, she will place a curse on me that will follow me till the end of my life,” Batuwa added.

It was gathered that the incident that led to the suspect’s arrest occurred on September 29, 2019, when Aliyu reported to the police that five persons invaded his compound and kidnapped his daughter.

According to the report, the men fired gunshots into the air to scare away villagers before whisking his daughter away to an unknown destination.

On receiving the report, a team of police detectives attached to the Bangi Division chased after the fleeing abductors and the suspect was arrested in the process and the victim rescued unhurt.

Northern City News gathered that only Betuwa was arrested during the operation as his four accomplices took to their heels and have not been seen since then.

The second-in-command to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Uthman Umar, confirmed the incident.

He said the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that police operatives recovered an empty shell of AK-47 ammunition from the scene.

Umar added that detectives were on the trail of the fleeing suspects and that the case would  be charged as soon as investigation was concluded.
