Sad! Man Butchers Lady To Death In Delta State

Tragedy struck last weekend when a middle-aged woman was allegedly butchered at Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State by a man identified as Sunny who is now cooling his heels in police custody.

Community source said that the assailant laid ambush for the victim for about two days at the particular spot along Agbor-Sakponba Road where he dragged her out of her ash color Toyota saloon car and descended on her.

According to the source, the victim was going to attend a burial ceremony at Oki on the fateful day before the attacker bounced to snuff breath out of her, adding that the charred remains of the victim were deposited at the mortuary.

“The murder was so callous. The suspect used cutlass to cut her ear, stomach, buttocks, back, laps and spread her legs on the road, exposing her private part. We have never seen a thing like this before,” the source said.

The source added that as the assailant was descending on the victim, she was shouting Sunny which attracted people to the scene but their intervention was too late, noting however that the intervention of policemen saved the assailant from being lynched by angry mob.

“When the mob gathered and saw the lifeless woman in the pool of her blood, they attacked the assailant who was still holding his blood stained cutlass. They even broke his head before the police came and took him away,” the source narrated.

Investigation revealed that the victim who resided at Asaba was billed to attend the burial ceremony on Thursday but put off the journey as her vehicle developed fault which led to her changing the four tyres.

It was further gathered that by Saturday, she decided to embark on the ill-fated journey but at the spot where the assailant laid ambush between Aliagwai and Agbor-Nta communities, he emerged and stood at the front of the vehicle, forcing the victim to apply the brakes.

The assailant who was dressed in complete black attire was said to have opened the door of the vehicle and dragged the woman out, brought a cutlass and started cutting her body parts, amidst shouts, till she gave up the ghost.

5 People Die Of ‘Strange Disease’ In Nassarawa, 20 Hospitalized

Five persons allegedly died of a “strange disease”, while about 20 others are hospitalised in Ayele community in the Loko Development area of Nasarawa State.

It was gathered the news of the strange illness broke out on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
A member of the Rapid Response team from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, led by Dr Ibrahim Adamu, told our correspondent that the death of the five persons left residents of the community perplexed.

It was learnt that the team had got samples from the 20 persons that were hospitalised and had taken the samples for tests.
He said the result showed that the disease was salmonellosis.

Speaking further, the team leader of the Rapid Response team, Adamu, said, “Based on the report and observation that I have made so far, what is affecting this community is a water-borne disease known as salmonellosis.”
He said the residents should avoid drinking water from the source that caused the disease.

He said, “Measures must be taken to stop this disease and prevent it from affecting other people in the community. The preventive measure is to stop people from using the water body that is contaminated?”
Reacting on the outbreak of the disease in separate interviews, two community leaders in the area, Mr. Ebele Olobo and Mr. Adrew Ejeh, expressed dismay, saying the disease was strange.

Olobo said, “We don’t know the kind of illness that befell us in this community. We don’t know whether it’s from water or air; we don’t know the cause.”
Ejeh said the residents might not be able to avoid drinking from the water that caused the disease because there was no other source. He urged the government to come to the aid of the community.
He said, “We have four boreholes, but none of them has been put into use. We are calling on Governor Tanko Al-Makura to come to our aid in order to avert more deaths in our community.”

However, some residents, who did want their names to be mentioned, told our correspondent that the disease could be Zika virus.
Our correspondent, who visited the area, gathered that in the community the only source of water for drinking and other domestic use was a lake from one of the tributes of the River Benue which passed through the community.
Our correspondent reports that Ayele community is a rural and agrarian area with a population of over 900 people, located 520 kilometres away from Loko, the headquarters of the Loko Development Area of Nasarawa State.

It was gathered that the lake, which had a large volume of water, which residents of Ayele community use for fishing and irrigation, did not flow well.
Efforts by our correspondent to reach out to the state Commissioner for Health, Mr. Daniel Iya, proved abortive as his phone rang out, while a text message sent to his mobile phone was not replied to as of the time of filing in this report.

Wow! Indiana Mother Of Three Missing Since 1974 Found Alive In Texas

An Indiana mother of three who vanished without a trace in 1974 has been found alive in Texas.

Lula Ann Gillespie-Miller was 28 when she signed away her parental rights to her three children, including a newborn, over to her parents.

A letter her parents received was postmarked from Richmond, Indiana in 1975 and was the last time they heard from Gillespie-Miller.

Gillespie-Miller thought she was too young for motherhood, she reportedly told her parents. For the next four decades, she was a missing person in the state of Indiana.

According to the Indiana State Police , that all changed after Detective Sergeant Scott Jarvis took the case in January 2014. The Doe Network , a group that assists families with missing persons investigations, initially contacted ISP about Gillespie-Miller.

Gillespie-Miller began his search in Richmond, where he discovered a case of a Jane Doe whose body was buried in an unmarked grave in the Indiana town.

The detective took a sample of Gillespie-Miller's daughter's DNA to compare to her missing mother's and potentially determine whether the buried body was hers. While awaiting the DNA test results, police said Jarvis'investigation took him in some new directions.

He began to following the trail of a woman with similarities to Gillespie-Miller who had lived in Tennessee in the 1980’s, then moved to Texas.

That trail led to a woman who'd been living in a small Texas town since the 1990's, possibly under an alias.

After this past Thursday, Jarvis would no longer need the DNA results after Texas Rangers the detective asked to visit the woman in Texas made contact.

Police say the woman admitted to them that she is,indeed, Lula Ann Gillespie-Miller.

She is now 69 years old. Gillespie-Miller has committed no crime, police say.

Authorities will not reveal exactly where she now resides because she also retains her right to anonymity.

However, she gave police permission to give her daughter Tammy Miller her address so the two might soon reconnect.

However, Tammy told PEOPLE that's simply not going to happen.

"I'm angry," Miller, 45, said in her first extensive interview.

"This isn't going to be one of those happy, made-for-TV movies.

If One Fails All Failed Senator Ben Bruce - Maryam Wokili

Are we going to kill our self by our self? No, we just need to pray for Nigeria. Senator Ben Murry bruce posted a photo above mocking APC (Change). He is a Senator of a Republic and represents the citizens. Why not champion our course at the senate rather than making mockery of the people who voted him.

The Government should be a team and if one fails all failed. Now to think that a man who is part of his present Government has put it upon itself to continuously mock his regime then he is clueless and lacks common sense. A kingdom divided against  itself shall not stand. So lets keep praying so Nigeria.

Tinubu Blasts Kachikwu Over Fuel Scarcity

National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday ruled the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, out of order for saying he should not be expected to conjure magic in resolving the current fuel crisis in the country.

He said the minister strayed from the progressive calling required of the Buhari administration by making the statement attributed to him.

Kachikwu who doubles as Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had said, in reaction to public criticism of his handling of the fuel scarcity, that Nigerians should count themselves fortunate that the NNPC under his stewardship has been able to bring in the amount of fuel it is currently doing.

Tinubu, in a statement, threw in his lot with Nigerians who, according to him, were “as right to feel insulted as the minister was wrong to have said such a thing.”

He said those charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the country should learn to do things creatively and away from past practices.

His words: “The art of governance is difficult and complex, especially during trying times. The steep reduction in global oil prices from over 100 dollars per barrel to roughly 40 presents a hard challenge. “We can no longer afford past practices.

Nigeria now requires creative reform, materially changing the substance of national economic policy as well as the objectives of that policy and how the policy is presented to the people.

Therein lies the essence of progressive democratic governance.

“The Buhari administration represents the last best hope we have to install such governance in Nigeria and avert the catastrophe that would have befallen us had the prior government remained in place. Had the nation continued with the spendthrift corruption and vagabond economic policies of that administration, we would have soon experienced such a collision with the harsh consequences of that government’s malign ways that our very institutions of government may have been distorted beyond fixture and repair.”

Asiwaju Tinubu added, “In this effort, there may be no economic matter more difficult to unravel and more sensitive to the purse of the average person than the current fuel scarcity. Even here I am confident of progress because I know the commitment of the president to resolving this matter. I make no attempt to hide it. I am an avid and partisan supporter of this government and of the progressive policies of the party, the APC, upon which this government is based.

“With that I do reserve the right and the duty as a Nigerian to voice my opinion when I believe a member of this government has strayed from the progressive calling required of this administration. I do this because my greater devotion and love are for this nation and its people. Party and politics fall secondary.

“Much public ire has been drawn to the statement made by Minister of State (Ibe Kachikwu) that he was not trained as a magician and that basically Nigerians should count themselves fortunate that the NNPC under his stewardship has been able to bring in the amount of petrol fuel it is currently doing.

“Perhaps the statement by Kachikwu was made in a moment of unguarded frustration or was an awkward attempt at a joke. Whatever the motive, it was untimely and off-putting. The remark did not sit well with the Nigerian people; they were as right to feel insulted as the minister was wrong to have said such a thing.

“The fuel shortage is severely biting for the average person. They are forced to remain in lines far too long, for too much time, to pay too much money for too little fuel. This is no joking matter. Livelihoods and people’s welfare are at stake. With so much on the line, Kachikwu’s flippancy was out-of-line.

He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer and that they should just be quiet, and endure the shortage for several weeks more.

“Kachikwu’s intervention was unhelpful. It panicked and disappointed the public as to the duration of the crisis. It insulted the people by its tonality. He spoke with the imperious nature of a member of the elitist government the people voted out last year and not the progressive one they voted in.”

He reminded the minister “that he was not coerced to take this job. He accepted the job and its responsibilities knowingly. He also must remember that he does not own NNPC. This also is not a private company that owes nothing to the public except the duty of fair dealing. He is a public servant. The seat he sits upon is owned by Nigerians not by him. The company he runs is owned by Nigerians not by him. They are his boss. He is not theirs. Power is vested in the people. He is a mere custodian or agent of their will. In talking to us in such a manner, he committed an act of insubordination.

“If he had talked so cavalierly to his boss in the private sector, he would have been reprimanded or worse. If wise, the man should refrain from such interjections in the future.”
