I was wondering who will tell Governors like Ayo Fayose and others who have not been able to pay their states' workers salary for several months to now come and fund feeding programme.
Good thing is, the Presidency has said counterpart funding from states is not required to start implementation of the Federal Government’s National Home-grown School Feeding programme.
They already provided N93.1b in the 2016 budget for the effective implementation of the programme.
Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, made this clarification in a statement on Tuesday.
Governor Fayose of Ekiti State had recently said the programme must be implemented without by the federal government, because it is an APC programme.
Responding to the governor, Akande said while states were active participants in the school feeding plan, their “counterpart funding is not required to start the programme’s implementation.”
He said "willing" states are encouraged to complement the programme so it could reach more pupils.
He said no state government would be compelled to do that.
