The House of Reps has began an amendment to the Nigerian Communications Commission Act to regulate unsolicited telecommunications services, including adult contents.
The proposal seeks a safer online communication and specifically prohibits unsolicited pornographic contents by telecommunications service providers.
The bill, which passed second reading, “requires Internet service providers and telecommunications operators to exclude adult content” from their services.
The consolidated bill also seeks to prohibit the sale of pre-registered SIM cards in the country.
The bill was jointly sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Ethics/Privileges, Mr Nicholas Ossai, and Mr Peter Akpatason.
The aim of the bill is to restore some sanity.
