Two suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the police over the alleged abduction of a couple at Effurun, in Uwie Local Government Area of Delta State.The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ogbeni and Osimi Enakhiru, were said to have abducted one Blessing Dukuye and his wife, Joy, in the early hours of January 1, 2017, along the Delta Steel Company roundabout.
It was learnt that the victims were returning from the new year church service when they were whisked away by the kidnappers.They were, however, said to have been arrested at their respective hideouts within Effurun on January 17 by policemen the Zone 5 Police Headquarters.
The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Iheanacho, in a statement on Monday said, “The suspects were arrested at their respective hideouts along Alaka area and PTI road, all in Effurun Delta State.”
The couple was said to have been rescued while the sum of N1,080,000, including an amount said to have been paid as ransom, was recovered. Several arms and ammunition, including one AK47 rifle, one Lar rifle marked, 1633972 and 3869, respectively, and one pump action, with number 12-76 NBD Ts 870, were said to have been recovered during a search on the premises of the suspects.
Iheanacho added that the suspects had made useful information to the police and would be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
