A married teacher faces 18 years in jail after having sex with a schoolboy dozen times in her classroom. April Novak, 32, and the 16-year-old pupil allegedly had “very strong feelings for each other” when they romped on a couch during school hours, it is claimed.
The mother-of-two was on birth control and the boy used a condom he would discard in a styrofoam coffee cup, she told police.
Her husband knew she was helping the boy with lifts to school and food but became suspicious that something more was going on. He filed for divorce after she was charged - and now Novak also faces losing her two kids and her freedom for up to 18 years after being found guilty of sexual assault.
Novak admitted in court that she had a two-month affair with her student at Menomonee Falls High School, Wisconsin, in late 2015. She told cops who arrested her that she thought of killing herself by driving into a bridge with her young sons in the car.
Novak pleaded no contest to three counts of sex with a minor in exchange for having nine other charges dropped.
The reading teacher and literacy coach resigned from her job when the scandal surfaced in December 2015 after another tutor caught her kissing the student.
Prosecutors have indicated they will ask for jail time when she is sentenced on June 29.
