Chance The Rapper Turns Down $10m To Stay Independent

Labels are literally offering millions of dollars to sign Grammy award winner Chance the Rapper and he’s letting the industry know that he’s not for sale.

According to Page Six before Chance’s historic Grammy night, the rapper was turning down multi-million dollar advances from major record labels and now his stock only gone up. An insider said: “Every label is still trying to get him. He’s making too much on his own

He was turning down $5 million advances before, and now it’s like $10 million.” The source added, “He may do something with Apple, but not a label per se … He is going to remain independent.”

Following the release of his 2016 mixtape Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper established mainstream success with an appearance on SNL, a moving tribute to the late Muhammad Ali at the ESPYs and most recently the 59th Grammy Awards. Despite being independent, Chance took home three Grammy awards for his streaming-only album Coloring Book (Best New Artist, Best Rap Album and Best Rap/Sung Performance). He is the first black hip-hop artist to win Best New Artist since Lauryn Hill in 1999.

Even if you’re not a fan of his music; his work ethic, humbleness and positivity are all commendable. His unwillingness to sell out for money or lose himself in fame is respectable.
